WASD Celebrates Board Recognition Ceremony

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (FEBRUARY 12, 2025) — The Williamsport Area School District hosted a special board recognition ceremony Tuesday night to honor the dedication and contributions of its school board members. 

As part of the celebration, students from each school were paired with a board member to commemorate the occasion, with board members receiving a selected book dedicated in their name for placement in each of the students' school libraries.

Cochran Primary School:

  • Kaiden Stewart recognized Tom Adams with "More Than Words: So Many Ways to Say What You Mean" by Roz Maclean.
  • Amelie Thompson recognized Michele Hazel with "How to Read to a Grandma or Grandpa" by Jean Reagan.
  • Misha Lakatos recognized Michelle Deavor (accepted by Jamie Sanders on Deavor's behalf) with "The Yellow Bus" by Loren Long.

Curtin Intermediate School:

  • Sage Whitlow recognized Tom Adams with "The One and Only Family" by Katherine Applegate.
  • Rachel Smock recognized Lori Baer with "Operation: Happy" by Jenni L. Walsh.

Hepburn-Lycoming Primary School:

  • Jayelle King recognized Cody Derr (accepted by Barbara Reeves on Derr's behalf) with "Piglet Comes Home: How a Deaf Blind Pink Puppy Found His Family" by Melissa Shapiro.
  • Amelia Rau recognized Barbara Reeves with "The Library Fish Learns to Read" by Alyssa Satin Capucilli.
  • Carter Gaines recognized Jamie Sanders with "I Am Stuck" by Julia Mills.

Jackson Primary School:

  • Cameron Smith recognized Lori Baer with "Someone New" by Anne Sibley O’Brien.
  • Nevaeh Griffin recognized Adam Welteroth with "Superbuns! Kindness to the Rescue" by Diane Kredensor.
  • Ka’li (King) Justice recognized Scott Williams with "Lend a Hand: Poems About Giving" by John Frank.

Lycoming Valley Intermediate School:

  • Sesily Hill recognized Michelle Deavor (accepted by Baer on Deavor's behalf) with "Minerva Keen’s Detective Club" by James Patterson and Keir Graff.
  • Samaya Garfield recognized Cody Derr (accepted by Baer on Derr's behalf) with "Where the Weird Things Are: An Ocean Twilight Zone" Adventure by Zoleka Filander.

Williamsport Area Middle School:

  • Austin Beaghley recognized Adam Welteroth with "Ali Cross: The Secret Detective" by James Patterson.
  • Fayth Daniels recognized Barbara Reeves with "And Then, Boom!" by Lisa Fipps.

Williamsport Area High School:

  • Kellen Jackson recognized Jamie Sanders with "The Light Eaters: How the Unseen World of Plant Intelligence Offers a New Understanding of Life on Earth" by Zoe Schlanger.
  • Ella Ballard recognized Michele Hazel with "The Backyard Bird Chronicles" by Amy Tan.
  • Paiton Miller recognized Scott Williams with "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" by Rick Riordan.
