WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (APRIL 3, 2024) — Williamsport Area School District has once again been recognized as one of the Best Communities for Music Education from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education.

This is the 22nd year that WASD has received the designation, which is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

WASD is among only 975 school districts selected nation-wide.

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, WASD answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs.

“I’m incredibly proud and honored to witness our music program being recognized with this designation for over two decades now,” said Superintendent Dr. Timothy S. Bowers. “It truly reflects the exceptional dedication of our music educators who consistently deliver high-quality instruction. Congratulations to our music department!”

“We are honored to once again receive the designation of being one of the Best Communities for Music Education from The NAMM Foundation,” said Kristin Takach, secondary curriculum director. “This recognition highlights our district’s unwavering commitment to providing exceptional music education opportunities for all our students. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our educators, administrators and the entire community who support our music programs. We are proud to be among the select few nationwide to receive this recognition and will continue to prioritize the importance of music education in our district.”

The NAMM Foundation is a nonprofit supported in part by the National Association of Music Merchants and its approximately 10,300 members around the world.
