25 Winners Selected in WASD Education Foundation Holiday Essay Contest

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (DECEMBER 7, 2022) — The Williamsport Area School District Education Foundation recently concluded its annual Holiday Essay Contest, during which students in kindergarten through third grade were asked to answer, in 200 words or less, “What are you most thankful for during the holiday season and why?”
The top 25 winners were selected and will receive free ride on the trolley for an exclusive Holiday Tour of Lights on Wednesday, Dec. 14, sponsored by River Valley Transit Authority. They will also receive a special gift, provided by the district’s federal programs department.
This year’s winners are:
- Adalynn Askins, third grade, Jackson Primary School
- Ellanore Askins, first grade, Jackson Primary School
- Keller Best, third grade, Cochran Primary School
- Myla Best, kindergarten, Cochran Primary School
- Grace Caputo, third grade, Hepburn-Lycoming Primary School
- Ariella Casale, third grade, Cochran Primary School
- Julia Day, third grade, Cochran Primary School
- Hayden Day, third grade, Cochran Primary School
- Olivia Derr, third grade, Cochran Primary School
- Oliver Duitch, kindergarten, Cochran Primary School
- Luke Flynn, kindergarten, Hepburn-Lycoming Primary School
- Claire Hoyt, kindergarten, Jackson Primary School
- Breanna Irrera, third grade, Hepburn-Lycoming Primary School
- Patrick Irvin, first grade, Hepburn-Lycoming Primary School
- Kennedy Mason, second grade, Jackson Primary School
- Colleen Mattern, third grade, Jackson Primary School

In addition to the trolley ride, two top essay winners were selected and received a $25 gift card to the AMC movie theater downtown. These two students are third-graders Jru Drummond and Ariel Keesing, from Jackson and Cochran Primary schools, respectively.
Following the trolley ride, this year’s winners also will get to enjoy an exclusive story time session with cookies and hot chocolate, provided and served by students from Williamsport Area High School’s culinary arts program, in the rotunda at the James V. Brown Library.
