WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (APRIL 7, 2025) — The Williamsport Area High School music department hosted its annual musical on Friday and Saturday with its spring production of "Seussical."
The musical unfolds as The Cat in the Hat tells the tale of Horton, a kindhearted elephant who discovers a tiny speck of dust that houses the entire world of the Whos, including Jojo — a young Who sent to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton’s journey is far from easy: while defending the Whos from skeptics and threats, he also takes on the responsibility of protecting an abandoned egg left in his care by the carefree Mayzie La Bird. Despite facing ridicule, danger, kidnapping and even a trial, Horton finds unwavering support in the devoted Gertrude McFuzz. In the end, the story celebrates the triumph of friendship, loyalty, family and community.
Among the cast and crew of about 50 students, the production starred Xavier Johnston as Cat in the Hat; Johanna Pelly as Jojo/Boy; Elijah Nilson as Horton the Elephant; Ava Girton as Gertrude McFuzz; Paiton Miller as Mayzie La Bird; Colton Taylor as Mr. Mayor; Caroline Pelly as Mrs. Mayor; Jaslin Shand as Sour Kangaroo; Albert Campbell as General Gengus Khan Schmitz; Tatium Zarzyczny, Tyler Perhsall and Colyn Jandrisavitz as The Wickersham Brothers; and Yasmin Smith, Elizabeth Kirk and Sabra Fisher as The Bad Girls.
This year's musical was directed by WAHS choral instructors, Sam Robinson and Megan Louder, with choreography by Theresa Kendall.
