WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (FEBRUARY 28, 2025) — The Williamsport Area Middle School (WAMS) music department is preparing for its annual spring musical production.
“Matilda Jr.” is set to hit the stage beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 7, with a matinee performance scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 8.
The musical follows the story of young Matilda Wormwood, who is magnificently intelligent, but constantly belittled by her parents and the terrifying headmistress at her school. Matilda finds solace in books and imaginative storytelling, and even discovers she has telekinetic powers. She inspires her classmates to stand up for each other, connects with her kind-hearted teacher, Miss Honey, and together they work to overcome the obstacles in Matilda’s life.
The production stars Jewel Broaddus as Matilda; Zoë Moses-Oneal as Miss Trunchbull; Cadence Decker as Miss Honey; Deegan Bragg as Bruce; Alexis Coffey as Lavender; Elaina Girton as Mrs. Phelps; Aidan Weaver as Mr. Wormwood; and Clara Fabian as Mrs. Wormwood.
Director Jennifer Wright lauded the student cast and encourages those interested to “come and join the revolt!”
“This cast is fun to watch,” she said. “Matilda Jr. features catchy songs, energetic dance numbers and heartwarming messages like ‘You mustn’t let a thing like being little stop you.’ This show truly captures the wonder of childhood and the power of being tiny but mighty.”
Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the WAMS main office between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. (cash or check only). All tickets are $5.
