WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (JUNE 7, 2024) — Last evening, 324 graduates proudly celebrated their achievements and received their diplomas during Williamsport Area High School’s 153rd commencement ceremony.

Those in attendance had the privilege of hearing commencement speeches made by members of the senior class — Ian Sykes and Tre Brown. The senior Class President Ella Wilson also made remarks.  Each delivered a message set to a theme based on a quote from “The Lion King”: “Oh yes, the past can hurt. But from the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it.”

“Graduates, as you stand at the threshold of your future, it's crucial to reflect on the journey that brought you here. Each of you has faced challenges, triumphs, setbacks, and successes,” Head Principal Dr. Justin Ross said in his address to the class. “As you embark on this new chapter of your lives, remember that your past does not determine your destiny. You have the power to shape your own future, to chase your dreams, and to make a difference in the world. But to do so, you must be willing to embrace the lessons of your past and let them guide you forward.”

Fatima Zeshan
and Jack Heller were named salutatorian and valedictorian, respectively.

Among the scholarships, awards and prizes granted to students, $105,638 was granted to select graduates held at the Williamsport Area School District Education Foundation. In addition, this year’s high school retirees were acknowledged and honored for their service to the district and its students over the years.
