WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (MARCH 13, 2024) — Hepburn-Lycoming Primary School music teacher Lori Nelson will be recognized for her lasting contributions to the field of music education.

Nelson will receive the 2024 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) Citation of Excellence in Teaching Award for District 8 during PMEA’s All-State Festival next month in Erie.

Nelson has been teaching for 22 years, with 19 years at WASD, having taught at both the former Lycoming Valley and Curtin Middle schools and Stevens Primary School.

“I am humbled and honored to receive this,” Nelson said. “I am thankful to be able to share my passion for teaching with children every day. I love children, watching them grow and encouraging them to be the best version of themselves. Music is the vehicle through which I can do this.”

In addition to teaching, she assists with the music ministry at St. Peter’s Church and enjoys attending music workshops with the Twin Tiers Orff Association. She also mentors student teachers from area colleges.

“Lori’s outstanding dedication and contribution to our school district have rightfully earned her this honor,” said Matthew Radspinner, Williamsport Area High School orchestra teacher and department head. “Her achievement fills us with pride, and I speak on behalf of the entire staff when I say that there is no one more deserving of this recognition.”

“I am thrilled to extend my congratulations to Lori on this well-deserved recognition,” said Kristin Takach, director of secondary curriculum. “We are proud to have her as part of our team. This award is a testament to her outstanding efforts and the positive impact she has on the lives of our students.”
