WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (FEBRUARY 15, 2024) — The Williamsport Area Middle School music department is preparing for its annual spring musical production.

“High School Musical Jr.” is set to hit the stage beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, March 8, with a matinee performance scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, March 9.

The musical follows the story of Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez, two students from different social circles who discover a shared passion for singing. Despite the obstacles and stereotypes they face, they decide to audition for the lead roles in their school’s musical. As they pursue their dreams and face the pressures of school, Troy and Gabriella’s journey inspires their classmates to embrace their own talents and break free from the limitations of cliques.

The production stars Marley Naugle as Gabriella Montez, Tyler Pershall as Troy Bolton, Cadence Decker as Sharpay Evans and Cooper Gutberlet as Ryan Evans.

Choral teacher and director Jennifer Wright lauded the student cast, and encourages those interested to “come and ‘Bop to the Top’ with us.”

“This cast is possibly the most hardworking and quick-to-learn cast that I’ve ever worked with,” she said. “They are living their best life on stage and it’s a joy to watch. They cannot wait to perform for our community.”

Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the WAMS main office between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. (cash or check only). All tickets are $5.
