West Fourth Street Project
A three-year reconstruction project for West Fourth Street in Newberry is planned to begin in 2017 that ultimately will span from Moore Avenue to Hillside Avenue, just beyond Millionaire Lane (the entrance to the Williamsport Area High School). The stretch of roadway, as well as gas and water lines and other utilities, are all scheduled for replacement.
The project will be done in three phases beginning in March 2017 and end by October 2019. Preliminary work has started and will continue through October 2016 in the Trenton Avenue-Wahoo Drive area, which will serve as the major detour route during the later stages of the project.
Phase 1 (2017): Moore Avenue to Arch Street
Phase 2 (2018): Arch Street to between Wayne and Ridge avenues
Phase 3 (2019): From between Wayne and Ridge avenues to Hillside Avenue (north of Millionaire Lane)
During each stage of the project, sections of the street will be closed to traffic with detours, which will impact commutes for families with children at Jackson, Williamsport Area Middle School and Williamsport Area High School.
